While I don't listen to them with the same intensity I did when I was younger, I admire the Beatles. One song always bothered me back then. It's called "The Inner Light" and starts off this way:

Without going out of my door
I can know all things of earth
Without looking out of my window
I could know the ways of heaven

The farther one travels
The less one knows
The less one really knows

Now I understand more. To know is to be unable to learn. To know less is good. Travel is one of the ways I learn to know less.

I will likely not make it before my fortieth birthday, but one goal I have is to visit all seven continents. I feel fortunate that I live in a time and have the means where that goal is reachable by non legendary folks. Sadly, I don't think I'll be fortunate enough to travel off Earth. I suspect I am about two centuries too young for that.

My photography page has many pictures from some of my journeys.

Original source material for the earth image is a public domain image from NASA's visible earth project found here. Image was modified in Photoshop to indicate the places I've been, use my background color, and stylize the earth outlines.
